HACKER RETURNED $3.8 MILLION TO NEAR INTENTS AFTER AN ULTIMATUM.

Sometimes crypto-detective stories end in an unexpectedly positive way. The tale of the hack of NEAR Intents has taken a truly powerful turn. The project team managed to fully recover all $3.8 million that leaked from the protocol due to a vulnerability in the infrastructure.

The guys fairly quickly identified the attacker and issued a tough 48-hour ultimatum. The hacker managed to transfer part of the funds to an exchange and move them into the Bitcoin network, but after the ultimatum, they decided not to risk it and returned the money.

For now, the services have been temporarily paused, and the affected users were promised full compensation for their losses. The story ended peacefully; they didn’t continue investigating the case. But the situation once again shows how important Bug Bounty programs are. It’s far cheaper to pay white-hat hackers for bugs they find in advance than to track down attackers across all blockchains later.
