Dogecoin (DOGE) is a cryptocurrency that was created in December 2013 by software engineers Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer. It was inspired by the popular “Doge” meme featuring a Shiba Inu dog. Although Dogecoin started as a joke, it developed into a large and active cryptocurrency community.
Dogecoin uses a Proof-of-Work system and is based on technology similar to Litecoin. Unlike Bitcoin, which has a limited maximum supply, Dogecoin has no fixed maximum supply. New DOGE coins are continuously added to the circulating supply through mining.
One of Dogecoin’s notable features is its fast and relatively low-cost transactions, which have made it popular for tipping, payments, and online comunity activities. Its strong community and widespread recognition have also helped DOGE remain one of the best-known cryptocurrencies.
However, like other cryptocurrencies, Dogecoin's price can be highly volatile. Its market value can change significantly based on market conditions, investor sentiment, news, and social-media activity.
