$83,000,000 worth of XRP was stolen—what’s really chilling isn’t the amount
Bitget was hacked, and the attackers walked away with about $83,000,000 worth of XRP.
But more than that number, what should keep you up at night is this—another $75,000,000 worth of XRP is quietly sitting in the hacker’s wallet, and nobody can touch even a single finger of it.
It’s not that nobody wants to move it.
It’s that they can’t.
Why can’t they? Here’s the plain-language version
If your USDT was stolen? Tap the button at Tether, and that money turns into a string of dead numbers—no one can spend it.
If your USDC was stolen? Circle blacklists the address, and what the hacker holds is basically just air.
In this incident, the stablecoins the hackers “casually picked up” totaled only about $3.2 million, and Tether and Circle froze them at light speed. From theft to freeze, it might not even take as long as you ordering a cup of delivery food.
But XRP is different.
XRP is a native asset of the XRP Ledger. What does “native” mean? It means from day one, it’s hard-coded into the protocol—there is no “issuer” that can

Previously, when everyone looked at Terafab, there was at least some sense of “is Musk trying to take over everything himself again?” After all, advanced process nodes aren’t like building rockets, and spending money doesn’t automatically mean you can get it done.
The wind direction has changed a bit now: even TSMC is researching how to get involved.
Culpan’s take is that a more realistic option could be: TSMC builds the factories itself and operates them itself in Texas. SpaceX / Terafab would provide the funding, lock in long-term orders, and even hold shares together.
That is to say, Terafab may not ultimately really be “Musk himself making chips.” More likely, it becomes “Musk puts the demand and the money on the table and invites the best chip makers to do it.”
