Finally here. Today, China Unicom—one of the three major domestic telecom operators—begins opening up eSIM online application eligibility to users first. Users must first draw for a quota, and then complete the application through the corresponding app.

Previously, to obtain one, you needed to bring a domestically registered (mainland China) eSIM phone plus an ID document and go to a company-operated store to apply. Overseas non-registered phones are not eligible for processing.
