🚨 Statements from the Fed changed market expectations for a rate hike in October!
After remarks by John Williams, President of the New York Fed, the odds of a rate hike in October fell from around 70% to 50%, after he said there’s no need to rush into a new move.
This doesn’t mean a rate hike is off the table, as inflation is still high. Williams believes another hike may be necessary before the end of the year, but perhaps in December instead of October.
👀 What matters most now is today’s data, Wednesday:
- ADP jobs data
- Annual and monthly Core PCE and GDP
For me, inflation data—especially PCE—will be very important in shaping expectations for the Fed’s next decision. Any surprise could move rate-hike expectations again, and therefore impact the dollar, bonds, stocks, and crypto.
