I’ve recently been looking at the AI × DePIN space, and I found the @Acurast project quite interesting.

When people talk about AI compute in the past, the first reaction is usually large data centers and GPU clusters, but what Acurast wants to do is a different approach—tap into the vast amount of idle compute from the phones around us to build a decentralized computing network.

I think there’s a lot of room for imagination in this.

Nowadays, phone performance is getting stronger, but in many cases, besides watching videos and chatting, most of the compute power is basically idle. Acurast connects these distributed compute resources so that phones can also become Compute Providers in the network, supplying compute for AI, Web3, and other computation needs.

And $ACU in this network isn’t just a token—it’s involved in multiple areas such as computation payments, network incentives, staking, and governance. As the network gets used more, it’s also worth continuously watching how the token’s real-world utility evolves.

For regular users, there’s also a fairly direct way to participate: if you have any spare phones, you can try to connect to the compute provided by Acurast and receive $ACU incentives according to the official rules.

One thing I like about this model is that you don’t necessarily need to buy a bunch of equipment to take part—your idle phone itself could become a network resource.

As AI becomes increasingly compute-hungry, DePIN is trying to mobilize more distributed compute. Whether Acurast can truly make this whole model work in practice is something we can keep an eye on.
