Korean crypto exchanges’ profits fell 78% in the first half of 2026 due to a sharp decline in trading activity and customer asset volumes.
According to KoFIU, compared with the previous 6 months:
- Average daily trading volume decreased 44%
- Customers’ won-denominated deposits decreased 35%
- Exchange revenues fell 41%
KoFIU’s survey covers 26 virtual asset companies, including 17 exchanges and 9 custodial units, during the period from 1/1 to 30/6/2026.
One cited reason is that individual Korean investors are shifting their attention to the stock market.
The amount of crypto held by Korean investors declined by 50.2% to 60.6 trillion won (about US$41.4 billion) over roughly one year.
