DogeOS launches testnet, bringing Ethereum applications to the Dogecoin ecosystem
🐕 Dogecoin wants to go beyond its payment role
DogeOS has just released a public testnet called Chikyū, aiming to expand Dogecoin from a network primarily used for payments into a platform capable of running blockchain applications.
The system is built as a zero-knowledge rollup and is compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM).
⚙️ Ethereum applications can be deployed on DogeOS
Thanks to EVM compatibility, developers can use familiar Ethereum tools and deploy smart contracts written in Solidity onto the DogeOS testnet to test them.
The ecosystem is expected to support many applications such as DEXs, lending, stablecoins, prediction markets, and blockchain games.
💰 DOGE will be used to pay transaction fees
One notable point is that DOGE will serve as the gas-fee asset on the DogeOS network.
If widely adopted, DogeOS could unlock many new use cases for Dogecoin beyond the traditional money-transfer function.
