Ethereum Foundation announces the launch of zkAPI
#EthereumFoundation has launched #zkAPI , enabling users to pay for #AI models and other metered APIs while keeping their identities private. The Foundation developed zkAPI with the Open Anonymity (OA) Project, an open-source AI privacy initiative, and has deployed it on #Ethereum mainnet. To use zkAPI, users must deposit ETH or USDC into an Ethereum vault, where their balance is recorded as a private note. zkAPI then uses zero-knowledge proofs to verify payments without revealing the underlying deposit.
A zkAPI server verifies the zero-knowledge proof and issues a temporary API key with a spending limit. Users send prompts directly to the AI provider, while usage is deducted from their private balance once the key expires. Each payment also generates a unique nullifier to prevent double-spending without revealing other information.
