According to CNBC, Texas state Sen. Nathan Johnson, the Democratic candidate for attorney general, said he would investigate Deloitte and other state vendor contracts if elected after a software error left at least 178,000 Texans' voter registrations unprocessed. Johnson said he wants to review both the outsourcing process and the individual contracts, and he blamed Texas Republicans for shrinking government and relying more on contractors. The Texas Legislative Budget Board said Deloitte has six active contracts with the Department of Public Safety worth $84.46 million and 30 active contracts across 16 state agencies totaling $2.02 billion. Johnson's announcement came after reports that the Department of Public Safety error caused at least 200,000 voter registration applications to go unprocessed, and the Secretary of State's office said the registrations were sent to counties in time for the Nov. 3 election.
