According to Decrypt, the government of Illinois, together with The Digital Chamber and the Illinois Blockchain Association, has asked the state court to postpone the 0.2% digital asset transaction tax, originally set to take effect on January 1, 2027, to July 1, 2027. The constitutionality lawsuit is still ongoing.
One observation: if the court grants a temporary injunction, local trading users, platforms, and market makers will get an additional six-month buffer; another observation: such delays may also temporarily reduce the near-term pressure from the spread of “taxation per transaction” at the U.S. state level.
