#以太坊基金会主网推出zkapi
Is Ethereum more than just a payment network—it’s becoming the privacy infrastructure of the AI era?
The zkAPI launched on the mainnet by the Ethereum Foundation in collaboration with the Open Anonymity Project aims to solve privacy issues in payments for AI services. It lets users use AI models or other API services without exposing their payment identity.
Put simply, zkAPI uses zero-knowledge proof technology to separate “who is paying” from “what service is being used.”
Users can deposit assets such as ETH and USDC into an on-chain vault. By proving—via zero-knowledge proofs—that they have sufficient payment capacity, they can obtain temporary API keys to call AI services. The AI service provider can see the request content, but cannot know the payer’s identity; the payment system can verify spending, but cannot link it to specific requests.
This technology sends three important signals:
First, ETH use cases are expanding. In the past, Ethereum mainly supported DeFi, stablecoins, and asset settlement. With zkAPI, ETH is being pushed into new scenarios such as AI-service payments and usage-based billing.
Second, the fusion of AI and Crypto is moving into the infrastructure stage. When AI agents in the future autonomously and massively call models, data, and tools, privacy-preserving payments and automated settlement may become key requirements.
Third, the zero-knowledge proof track is drawing renewed attention. ZK technology is not only being used for scaling, but is also becoming an important infrastructure for privacy computing and the AI economy.
For ETH price, the short-term impact still depends on capital flows and market sentiment. zkAPI is more about long-term ecosystem value. If, in the future, AI services widely adopt on-chain payments, demand for ETH as a settlement layer may further increase.
In my view, zkAPI’s biggest significance isn’t that it will immediately drive how much trading volume, but that it opens up the imagination space for an “AI economy + blockchain payments” model. How AI agents pay each other, how they verify identity, and how they protect privacy may become the key focus of the next round of competition.
Ethereum is expanding from “financial infrastructure” to “intelligent economic infrastructure.”
Do you think AI payments will become Ethereum’s new growth narrative, or is it still largely stuck in the early experimentation stage?
