$BTC touched 85,229 U.S. dollars, the highest since late January. But the point of this news is not whether it “broke through,” but that it gave back its gains the very same day.

After news came out on September 30 that U.S. core PCE had cooled, Bitcoin briefly surged above 85,000. Spot prices were around 84,256 U.S. dollars, up about 3.8% intraday, and then pulled back by the close. It has risen more than 7% over the past five days and nearly 35% over the past three months, but it is still down on the year overall, and remains far from the all-time high of about 126,000 U.S. dollars in October 2025.

Why is the 85,000 level so hard to break? Many see it as the key structural resistance tied to “active realized price.” The 85,000–86,000 range is a confluence zone: the average cost basis of spot ETFs, a dense band of long-term holder supply, and concentrated call option strike levels all sit here. Above that, technically it opens the path to 88,000–90,000; if it cannot hold, a retest of 80,000–82,000 is likely.

For ordinary users, the truly actionable information is actually just three things:

First, whether net inflows into spot ETFs can continue. The previous round of net inflows was nearly 2 billion U.S. dollars, and that was the main fuel for this rally. If the fuel stops, the rally stops.

Second, whether the weekly chart can hold above the 50-week moving average — this is the first close above it in 45 weeks, and that is not noise.

Third, watch the liquidation structure. More than 136,000 people were liquidated in 24 hours, totaling about 747 million U.S. dollars. That scale of liquidation is usually the source of a short-term squeeze followed by a pullback.

My view is: above 85,000 is a supply zone, not a vacuum zone. It got pushed up and then sold back down the same day, which shows the selling pressure in this area is real. I tend to interpret this move as a “recovery rally” rather than a new trend, unless ETF inflows keep accelerating and absorb the supply above.

So which would you choose — chase above 85,000, or wait for a pullback to 80,000 before deciding? #BitcoinBreaksAbove85200
