The calendar and the formats are still being discussed, the spokesperson for the financial agency, Julie Kozack, announced

Caracas.- The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is analyzing with Venezuela’s authorities the possible return of the organization to the country through the opening of a local presence, a process in which the formats and timelines are still yet to be defined, as reported by the EFE agency. Likewise, the institution confirmed that, to date, the Venezuelan government has not requested any financing program.

"The Venezuelan Fund and authorities are considering establishing a local presence in Venezuela to facilitate this technical cooperation and capacity development. The schedule and modalities are still being discussed," the spokesperson for the financial institution, Julie Kozack, said during a press briefing held in Washington.

The outreach is part of efforts initiated following the meeting that IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva held on September 21 with Venezuela’s interim president, Delcy Rodríguez, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, with a view to fully restoring institutional relations.

"At this time, our main objective regarding Venezuela is to identify key areas for technical cooperation. So far, the identified areas are macroeconomic statistics, monetary operations, foreign exchange operations, treasury operations, and tax administration," Kozack explained.

The talks have included visits by technical teams to Caracas between late August and early September to discuss priorities for data and development, preceded by a tour by the Director of the Western Hemisphere Department, Nigel Chalk.

"Any financing that might be provided would be only at the request of the authorities," the spokesperson said, while reiterating that Caracas has not made requests to any financing program.
