🐕 Dogecoin has finally decided to grow up a little. And without surgery.

The MyDoge team has launched a public testnet for DogeOS Chikyū — an L2 network for Dogecoin, meant to turn the beloved meme coin from “just sending DOGE” into a full-fledged platform for smart contracts, DeFi, games, and other Web3 applications. 🚀

The most interesting part is that DOGE remains the main hero.

💰 Network fees are paid specifically in DOGE—we didn’t issue a separate gas token.

🧠 DogeOS is compatible with Ethereum tools and the EVM, so developers can use familiar Solidity, Hardhat, Foundry, and other tools.

⚡ By design, DogeOS can process about 300 transactions per second, compared to roughly 30 TPS for the base Dogecoin, and new blocks are formed about every 3 seconds instead of a minute.

And most importantly, Dogecoin L1 didn’t have to be redesigned to launch the testnet. DogeOS runs on top of the main network as a separate layer.

And this is no longer just a pretty theory: in the test ecosystem, projects for token swaps, lending, perpetual contracts, options, and stablecoins are starting to appear.

But there’s a catch 👀

For now, this is only a testnet, and security is not yet fully ensured by Dogecoin miners. In the future, the team wants to achieve tighter integration with the underlying network, including through possible changes to Dogecoin Core.

The mainnet launch date has not been announced yet.

It turns out to be a funny situation:

Dogecoin: “I’m basically just a meme coin.”

DogeOS: “And let’s add more DeFi, smart contracts, longs, shorts, and stablecoins?” 😂🐕

If DogeOS really works the way it was designed, DOGE could take on a new role—not just a means of payment and an object of speculation, but also fuel for an entire ecosystem of applications.
