U.S. stocks are finally starting to copy the crypto playbook.
Robinhood just announced that you can trade U.S. stocks and ETFs 24 hours a day on weekends too. The first batch is a curated list—after crypto folks have been running 24/7 for so many years, U.S. stock investors are finally getting a taste of the weekend “watch the charts” experience.
Don’t underestimate this: it launched 24-hour trading on weekdays back in 2023, and during busy periods, a quarter of its trading volume was done during “after work hours.” Both Nasdaq and the London Stock Exchange are also moving to extend trading times.
That said, the feature is still waiting for regulatory approval, and weekend liquidity is thin, meaning prices can be easier to get hit.
So is this truly freedom to trade, or just two extra days for harvesting the greenhorns? Where do you stand? #USstocks
