#Illinois Crypto Tax Postponed
A 0.2% tax was first put on hold for half a year.

The Illinois government has reached an agreement with the Digital Chamber of Commerce and the state's blockchain association, and is expected to delay the implementation of the 0.2% crypto tax by six months to July 1. The motion to postpone still requires approval from a judge of the state circuit court. The Digital Asset Tax Act passed by the state in June imposes a 0.2% levy on crypto transactions and custody for institutions with annual revenue exceeding $100,000.

After the news broke, $BTC moved from 83857.4 to 84099.3, up 0.3%. Over the past hour it rose 0.8%; trading volume was 2.47 times the 24-hour average, and open interest increased by 1.46%. However, the ratio of aggressive buy/sell was 0.917, and the sell orders in the past hour were 1.08 times the buy orders. Price is moving, but the bid side hasn’t kept up.

A procedural delay of state-level taxation indicates there is still room for negotiation in the timeline of compliance costs—giving risk appetite a bit of breathing room. As long as positions and trading volume continue to expand, and the aggressive buy/sell ratio returns to above 1, this rebound is still intact. If the court does not approve the delay or the aggressive buy/sell ratio remains below 1, this move will likely be cut off.
