🇰🇷 South Korea is approaching the launch of a legal framework for the tokenization of stocks and bonds
As of October 1, 2026, this is no longer just a proposal—tokenization of traditional stocks and bonds has still not been put into actual effect in South Korea.
📜 The legislation has already been approved:
On January 15, 2026, the Korean National Assembly passed amendments to the Electronic Registration Act and the Capital Markets Act, to provide a legal framework for digital securities (Security Tokens).
📅 Effective date of the law:
The law will come into force on February 4, 2027. Until that date, there is no complete legal basis in South Korea to use distributed ledger technology (DLT) as an official ledger for tokenized local securities.
On September 4, 2026, the government announced an implementation roadmap, which explicitly includes stocks, bonds, and funds—not only fractional investment products.
🔹 Phase one — February 2027:
Initially, it will cover:
• MMF funds and private bonds dedicated to institutions
• Non-
This distinction matters because saying that “South Korea is now tokenizing stocks and bonds” would be an exaggeration of the current situation.
