$ETH MetaMask is removing Ethereum validators operated within Lido after detecting a security incident in part of its staking infrastructure.
Validators are the systems that help secure Ethereum and generate staking rewards. MetaMask decided to remove them as a precaution while investigating the issue, to reduce operational risk. According to MetaMask, no immediate threat has been identified to users' wallets, and Lido said that anyone who holds stETH does not need to do anything for now.
The process is not instant; validator exits can be completed by October 7, while the full cycle of exit, withdrawal, and re-entry could take up to about 45 days. During that time, some validators may stop generating rewards or face operational penalties.
Do you think this case shows that staking still needs even more transparency about operators’ security?
