MetaMask just disclosed a security breach on their staking infra.
What happened:
• ~17,000 validators (~523k $ETH / $1.4B) are being force-exited
• Direct loss so far: only 0.36 $ETH in rewards redirected
• Your staked $ETH is safe — MetaMask doesn't hold withdrawal keys
• MetaMask wallets NOT affected
Market reaction:
$ENA yanked $135M from Morpho immediately, then redeployed after confirmation
This is a validator infra compromise, NOT a wallet exploit. Still, forced exits on this scale create short-term $ETH sell pressure and shake confidence in centralized staking setups.
If you're staking through MetaMask: your principal is safe, but expect delays and potential slippage on exits. If you're using MetaMask wallet: you're fine.
Watch for cascading FUD and liquidity shifts across DeFi.
