[MetaMask Validators Suspected of Being Attacked, 17,000 Nodes Exit Involving 523,000 ETH]

MetaMask infrastructure is suspected to have been attacked, causing around 17,000 validator nodes to voluntarily exit, involving a staked amount of 523,000 ETH. On-chain data shows the attacker only stole approximately 0.36 ETH in block rewards, and it is highly likely that they cannot withdraw the core staked assets. However, if the attacker has signature permissions, it is theoretically possible to deliberately trigger the slashing mechanism, posing a potential tail risk to the security of ETH staking. At present, MetaMask’s official statement says there is no evidence indicating a direct threat to users’ wallet security. The market should closely monitor whether large-scale involuntary slashing events occur afterward, and whether such events affect ETH’s pricing expectations and capital retention rates in Lido or other mainstream liquidity mining pools.
