Bitcoin surged above 85,000 USD after the U.S. August PCE inflation came in below expectations, but quickly fell back as U.S. Treasury bond yields remained elevated.
Bitcoin at one point hit 85,500 USD before rising yields in the bond market weakened risk appetite. In Asian trading on Thursday, prices traded around 83,700 USD, up 0.4% over 24 hours.
HYPE rose by about 3% to nearly 89 USD, while DOGE climbed nearly 2% to around 0.1 USD. ETH, BNB, TRX and ZEC rose by less than 1%, XRP was flat around 1.50 USD, and SOL fell by nearly 1% to about 119 USD.
Lower-than-forecast PCE data reduces expectations that the U.S. Federal Reserve will continue raising interest rates in October, and also makes December seem like a possible time for the next policy adjustment. However, U.S. Treasury yields on the 10-year note remain around 5.28%, while the 30-year yield has at times reached its highest level since 2002. Sustainable declines in yields could be a factor supporting Bitcoin’s next developments.
