When Storage Connects On-Chain 🔗

The BTFS 4.0 update introduces a way to manage metadata via BTTC smart contracts.

This establishes a concrete link between two parts of the BitTorrent ecosystem: the storage service and the blockchain infrastructure.

To understand this design, you first need to distinguish what is being managed:
• Files carry the actual content.
• Metadata describes or references related content.
• Smart contracts provide the blockchain layer for managing the associated records.

As a result, metadata can become the collaboration point between the storage service and applications, helping apps obtain relevant information that can be verified.

It also allows developers to understand more specifically how BTFS and BTTC relate: which records are available, how they are updated, and what applications can verify based on them.

The information here concerns metadata management only, and does not mean that the complete files are stored on BTTC.

Understanding this division of responsibilities helps you recognize the system design and what each part is responsible for.
