Standard Chartered began coverage of Ethena with a strong outlook: it expects the token to be trading at $2 by the end of 2028. The bank laid out a path that starts at $0.42 for 2026 and moves to $1.10 in 2027.
The key to this forecast is the recovery of its synthetic dollar, the $USDe.
- After hitting a strong peak, supply shrank to about $4.9 billion. To meet the bank’s goal, that figure needs to rise to $40 billion in the next three years.
To avoid relying solely on futures rates, the protocol has moved into new business areas:
● Decentralized lending, yield on real-world asset (RWA) instruments, and liquid stablecoins. This aims to keep strong returns even if the market moves.
● This is reinforced by the fee-switch mechanism, which activates when $USDe exceeds $7.5 billion.
-That function redirects a large share of net income to token buybacks, a scheme designed to provide steady value to investors.
The challenge is not small.
The protocol must restart growth, cross commission thresholds, and prove that its new banking and DeFi bets can hold up at a global scale without hurting returns.
