Seeing Japan’s Ministry of Finance start researching tokenization of government bonds too, my first reaction was: the wind has finally blown over to the Japanese side.
Before this, Europe and the U.S. were already working in this direction. Back then, I said this kind of compliant big trend would eventually become standard across the global financial world. Now that Japan has also entered the game, it shows this isn’t some small-scale gimmick.
That said, I also have to add one more point: Japan’s market is different from Europe and the U.S. Their users have been slower to accept crypto assets in general. From setting up a research group to eventually actually moving government bonds onto the chain—who knows how many years it might take. So don’t go rushing to trade the concept just because you hear a piece of news.
Personally, I think this direction is workable in the long run, but I can’t say how much it can rise in the short term. Let’s take it one step at a time.
