According to the Cardano Foundation, the Brazilian state-controlled oil company Petrobras unveiled on Wednesday two applications based on the Cardano blockchain to track sustainability data related to sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel.
The first application, developed with Ledger Labs at PUC-Rio, tokenizes the environmental attributes of SAF in the form of digital tokens called CS-SAF, using a Book-and-Claim model designed to separate the environmental benefits of physical fuel and prevent double counting. Passengers can redeem tokens and receive certificates associated with their journeys. The second application creates digital checkpoints to track the production, transportation, and use of Petrobras’s Renewable Diesel R fuel, to facilitate scope 3 emissions reporting across supply chains.
