🚨 Winklevoss brothers add more to Zcash— a mining deal targeting annual revenue of $125 million

📊 According to CoinDesk, the Winklevoss brothers’ investment firm led a $59 million funding round for Cypherpunk Technologies. This public company specializes in holding and mining ZEC, and in August, a Winklevoss-controlled entity sold a batch of mining machines to it for $33 million.
🔥 An earlier report put the numbers plainly: this Zcash mining business could generate annual revenue of up to $125 million. At the same time, the exchange they control just switched its underlying software from Zebra to Zakura, cutting the time to catch up with the latest blocks from nearly a day down to just over 6 hours.
📌 Why watch this upgrade? Because Zcash’s upcoming NU7 upgrade will slash block time from 75 seconds to 25 seconds—tripling the rate at which computers process transactions. The team’s mainnet rollout target is set for November 5. NU7 will be tested on the testnet on October 6, but the announcement does not publish any real-world performance results for the new software under the faster schedule.
💡 What’s really worth关注 isn’t how much a mining rig can earn in a year, but that Winklevoss is tying the exchange, the public company, and the mining machines into one chain: trading, custody, and mining of ZEC can all be closed-loop within their own ecosystem—that’s the confidence behind their heavy bet.
⚠️ A splash of cold water: the targeted revenue is just an estimate, not money that will actually land in hand. The NU7 mainnet timing could also change; if the upgrade is delayed, the early-mover advantage of both the mining machines and the software will be discounted.
👀 One side says big-name leaders are laying the groundwork and Zcash is about to take off; the other says the regulatory risk for privacy coins is too high—let’s first see whether it gets delisted. Are you bullish or bearish? Chime in in the comments below👇
