Nine straight days of net inflows—this data definitely looks promising.. But if you go back and review this year’s ledger from the start, the picture changes instantly..

U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs pushed the streak of consecutive net inflows to a ninth trading day.. On Tuesday, another $66.2 million came in. During this run of gains, total inflows have sucked in roughly $3.1 billion.. Net inflows since the beginning of the year are finally back around the $1 billion mark..

The issue is in that “finally”.. In nine days, $3.1 billion came in, yet for the whole year the net inflow is only about $1 billion. In other words, before those nine days, these funds were essentially bleeding out.. What’s being recouped now is only the money from the most recent two weeks..

Even more worth watching is what’s happening on the other side at the same time.. Spot Ethereum ETFs ended seven consecutive days of net inflows, with a slight outflow of about $3 million on Tuesday. Before that, those seven days had only just pulled in $851 million.. The Zcash ETF acted even earlier: on Monday it recorded a net outflow of $8 million, ending the six-day winning streak..

This isn’t money flowing back to crypto overall—it’s being squeezed into a single opening.. With oil prices rising and non-yielding assets getting pressured, and everyone waiting for the U.S. PCE inflation data, capital hasn’t decided where to go yet, so it’s first hiding in the asset that looks most like digital gold..

The price itself doesn’t seem to have much attitude.. Bitcoin is trading around 83,500, down about 0.4% over the last 24 hours. The Fear & Greed Index fell from 73 to 71, still sitting in the greed zone..

Whether ETF inflows truly indicate institutional bullishness is questionable—even CoinShares has said that you can’t clearly see institutions’ real demand just by looking at inflow data.. The real thing to watch is the first trading day after the PCE report.. Will that money keep pouring in, or will it start to come back out..
