Just finished watching OpenAI’s latest Pro package update.
In one sentence:
The $200 tier didn’t get cheaper—your quota was cut in half first, and then they introduced a new $500 tier.
The old Pro 200:
20x → now 10x
GPT-6 Pro: 200 messages per week → 100
Existing users can keep 20x through October 29, then they’ll also move to the new quota. In addition, they’ll get a one-time transition bonus of 62,500 credits.
At the same time, here comes Pro 500:
$500/month, 25x usage, and exclusive access to Astra Ultrafast.
So the whole tier ladder is now:
Plus: 1x
Pro 100: 5x
Pro 200: 10x
Pro 500: 25x
But Pro 200 isn’t purely a cut.
This time they added a Dot that can keep working continuously for 24 hours—so it can do its job without consuming your regular quota. It only deducts quota when it calls Work or Codex.
My biggest takeaway after watching it is:
Before, for $200 you were buying “a lot for the money.” Now OpenAI is starting to split “quota” and “agents” and sell them separately.
For heavy Codex and Work users, they’ll probably need to recalculate their costs from scratch.
