🇹🇼 Taiwan: The Concept of "Asymmetric Warfare"
Facing constant threats of a potential Chinese invasion, the island of Taiwan has increased its military budget to unprecedented levels:
• Breaking a Historic Barrier: The defense budget exceeds about US$ 35,2 billion, more than 3% of its GDP. The plan is to reach 5% of GDP by 2030.
• The "Porcupine" Strategy (Asymmetric Warfare): Unable to compete with China in the same number of troops, Taiwan focuses on technologies that make an amphibious invasion extremely costly and difficult.
• Drones and Missiles: The cabinet proposed an additional injection of US$ 4,6 billion focused exclusively on domestic production of more than 40,000 coastal attack drones, unmanned vessels, and anti-ballistic missile systems (such as the Strong Bow).
• Partnership with the U.S.: There is a billion-dollar budget to acquire F-16V fighter jets and HIMARS artillery systems supplied by the United States.
These investments show that both regions consider the risk of high-intensity conflicts a real possibility in the coming years, turning defense into the main economic and industrial driver of these governments.
