Travelers to Japan can now use Binance Pay at PayPay-supported merchants across Japan for a smooth, convenient travel spending experience.

Binance announced today that eligible Binance Pay users traveling from overseas to Japan can now make payments at PayPay-supported merchants nationwide in Japan through HIVEX®. Effective September 30, 2026, this interoperability service enabled by HIVEX® will allow approximately 48 million eligible Binance Pay users from over 100 countries and regions to spend at millions of merchant locations in Japan; PayPay-supported merchants will continue to receive payments in Japanese yen.

This feature is designed specifically for travelers visiting Japan. It not only expands Binance Pay’s presence in one of the world’s most advanced cashless payment markets, but also supports a wide range of travel-related spending, including dining, shopping, accommodation, and other related purchases. Making digital asset payments more accessible in everyday and cross-border transactions, while also demonstrating seamless integration with a mature local payment network—showing how digital asset payments can be connected with the familiar fiat payment experience that the public knows.

Binance Pay and Fiat Payments Vice President Thomas Gregory said: "Japan is one of the world’s leading travel destinations,"

as we shape the future of interconnected, cashless payments. Our integration with PayPay reflects a shared vision between both parties to create a smoother, more cross-border, and easier-to-use payment experience for travelers visiting Japan. This integration also reflects the growing trend of traditional fiat payment systems and digital assets becoming increasingly intertwined. It not only gives travelers more payment options, but also helps PayPay-supported merchants across Japan better serve international customers."

Expand the reach of payment network usage through local QR code payments By connecting with the existing QR code payment ecosystem, Binance Pay enables users to pay with digital assets, while merchants can continue to receive payments in local currency. In Japan, PayPay brings this capability into one of the world’s most advanced cashless markets.

The launch of this service is a continuation of Binance Pay’s expansion of the QR code payment network along major travel routes in Asia. These services broaden Binance Pay’s footprint in key regional tourism markets, providing travelers with a more seamless cross-border consumption experience.
