Techub News update: GWDC 2026 Korea will be held in Seoul, South Korea, from September 29 to 30, 2026 at the aT Center. The conference is hosted by Web3Labs, and jointly hosted by Techub News, HypaiLabs, and TokenPost. Matthew Blummberg, Head of DeFi at Ondo Finance, delivered a speech titled "Improving Capital Efficiency for RWAs." Matthew Blummberg said that perpetual contracts offer linear leverage and eliminate the need for maturity rollovers, making them an efficient tool for gaining exposure to various assets. The share of RWA perpetual contracts in global perpetual DEX trading volume has increased from about 1.3% at the beginning of the year to 31% in August.
Matthew Blummberg points out that the problem with existing perpetual contract platforms is capital efficiency of collateral: collateral is typically stablecoins, and when placed on the platform it generates no yield, which hinders traditional financial institutions from using it. Matthew Blummberg explains that Ondo Perps allows users to use tokenized stocks, ETFs, and government bonds as margin, while also bringing in liquidity from traditional finance and supporting structured trading. Taking funding-rate arbitrage as an example, Matthew Blummberg says that in the past, every $100 position required $200 in funding in practice, while Ondo Perps can double capital efficiency.
The presentation shows that within 60 days of its public launch, Ondo Perps has recorded cumulative trading volume of over $10 billion. It has launched 81 markets, executed more than 23 million trades, and reached a peak open interest of over $100 million. Matthew Blummberg believes that RWA perpetual contracts are still in the early stage: traditional finance has not yet entered at scale. In the future, trading in crypto assets and RWA trades will be consolidated onto the same platform.
