OpenAI unveiled two things at the developer conference.
One is a persistent AI agent, built into conversational products.
Each agent comes with its own cloud computer.
The other is the new model GPT-6.1 Sol.
Its performance is close to the earlier Astra, but it’s priced far lower.
The day before, the company had delayed Astra due to security concerns.
The money part is more direct.
The company is currently looking for investors for at least $30 billion.
The valuation is close to $1.4 trillion, not including this new round of funding.
The IPO has been pushed to 2027.
Altman said the model won’t be listed until its safety is in place.
With the agents running persistently, compute usage shifts from a single call to all-day utilization.
This cost curve will propagate to data centers and electricity.
For crypto, AI and compute are also being repriced.
On-chain can only handle a small portion—settlement and permissions.
Which part of the cost do you think an all-day persistent agent will eat up first? Let’s discuss in the comments
