Good morning. The market action last night was pretty interesting: oil crashed, but crypto didn’t.
The WSJ said Middle East oil exports have returned to their highest level since the war began. The Strait of Hormuz—the throat that was being constricted—has been reopened by the U.S. Navy’s escort fleet. WTI immediately plunged more than 4%, to around $88. This geo-premium stuff comes fast and disappears even faster. Trump is still calling for oil prices to crash further, but the Iranian rial fell first: 2.5 million rials for $1, a new all-time low. A living example of fiat currency going to zero—this is one reason why BTC exists.
As for the coin price itself, it’s actually stable. $BTC around $83,000 held up through every scenario. I give props for that resilience.
There are also some good crypto-specific updates: Bitwise has launched the first U.S. spot $NEAR ETF, and it also includes staking rewards. The ETF competition has already gotten so competitive that staking yields are part of the race. Cboe and S&P Dow Jones are researching tokenized options, and the RWA narrative gets yet another push. Tonight $INJ has a $300,000 buyback and burn. Don’t expect burns to pull the price up in the short term—it’s purely about attitude.
But don’t get too excited yet. Wednesday’s PCE is right around the corner. The Fed is now even discussing another rate hike within the year. With 30-year U.S. Treasuries yielding 5.6%, it’s a bit hard for alts to run wild like a bull on steroids. Keep it light and watch.
