U.S. President Donald Trump is set to announce a South Korean investment plan of about $200 billion in the United States, including $54 billion in funding for a long-stalled Alaska gas export project. According to Sina Finance, a Republican senator has been pushing the project in a heated reelection campaign.

According to Sina Finance, the proposed announcement would be among the first projects backed under last year’s U.S.-South Korea trade agreement, which included a $350 billion investment pledge in the United States. Trump is expected to make the announcement on Wednesday in the Oval Office.

According to Sina Finance, South Korean support is considered crucial for advancing the project, which would transport gas across Alaska and export much of it to Asian buyers. Other energy projects, including nuclear projects, are also expected to attract some of South Korea’s investment.

According to Sina Finance, the announcement is the latest example of Trump using presidential power and his international dealmaking to help Republicans. With the November midterm elections approaching, Republican candidates are facing strong headwinds as voters remain unhappy with the economy.

According to Sina Finance, the investment plan was reached with the push of U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. Lutnick is expected to attend the White House event on Wednesday, along with Interior Secretary Doug Burgum and Jarrod Agen, executive director of Trump’s National Energy Dominance Council.
