For months, opening X (Twitter) and Telegram was destroying my morale.
I saw anonymous accounts posting arrogant screenshots: gains of +800%, portfolios going from $200 to $50,000 in three days on some obscure memecoin, photos of luxury watches and sports cars bought “thanks to trading.”
Next to them, I felt ridiculous.
I spent hours analyzing solid projects, sticking meticulously to my plan, doing DCA... for a modest gain of 10 to 15% over several months. I had this toxic feeling that I was too slow, too cautious, that I was an idiot watching others get rich at the snap of a finger.
This frustration almost pushed me to do anything: going all-in on dubious tokens to “catch up.”
Then the veil lifted.
By digging deeper and talking with real industry players, I realized the brutal truth:
Screenshots of gains of +1,000% were often from fake demo accounts or trades manipulated with virtual capital.
Those who showed massive gains were hiding the other 10 positions liquidated at -100% the same week.
Most of these influencers don’t live off their trading, but off affiliations and paid promotions from projects with no future that eventually empty the pockets of their audience.
This revelation was a total liberation.
I understood three truths that gave me my peace of mind back:
The noise on social media isn't the market reality: People share their trophies, never their burials.
Consistency beats euphoria: A steady gain of 15 to 20% per year, repeated with compound interest, builds lasting wealth. Instant gains of +500% almost always end up back at zero.
Your only competitor is your own discipline: Trading to prove something to others or to compete with strangers on the internet is the fastest path to ruin.
Today, I don't look at the neighbor's portfolio anymore. My plan is set, my risks are calculated, and every small percentage gained with serenity is worth a thousand times more than the digital illusions on social networks.
Have you ever felt this pressure or inferiority complex when you see other people's screenshots online?
