David Wells, CEO of Ondo Perps, said in a recent interview that bringing perpetual futures to the United States market represents a huge opportunity, although it will require a regulatory and clearing architecture fully adapted to local laws.
During the discussion, the executive explained that the U.S. model will operate under different parameters from its current offshore platform, which operates from Panama and allows leverage of up to 20x.
The protocol’s main competitive advantage lies in its capital efficiency:
- It enables the use of tokenized U.S. stocks as margin without needing to freeze stablecoins, allowing the user to maintain exposure to the underlying asset.
Since its launch in July, the service has accumulated an trading volume close to $14 billion and surpassed $100 million in open interest.
