Louisiana Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson said he wants AI guardrails to be implemented on a voluntary basis. According to Sina Finance, he said he hopes to find the right balance for the technology and will attend a high-level artificial intelligence conference in Washington later Tuesday.

Johnson made the remarks in an interview on Tuesday before meeting with tech executives and U.S. President Donald Trump. He said he hopes the outcome of the meeting will show that the industry is moving in that direction.

Industry executives and Johnson's congressional colleagues have been pressing for faster legislation to build an AI regulatory framework and establish government restrictions to prevent harm from AI. U.S. AI regulation remains at an early stage, and Congress will recess this weekend until after the November election.
