Bitcoin moved slightly on Tuesday, absorbing its recent losses amid rising yields and continued U.S.-Iran tensions, prompting investors to avoid high-risk assets.
The world’s largest cryptocurrency rose 0.6% to reach $83,637.10 by 09:07 a.m. It had hit a peak of $85,000.00 over the weekend before dropping rapidly.
Markets drew some encouragement from a statement by U.S. banking giant Citibank expanding its services for digital assets in Japan and the United Arab Emirates, amid hopes for further adoption of this sector by traditional finance institutions.

Returns and tensions with Iran keep Bitcoin under pressure
Cryptocurrency markets were affected by a sudden sharp rise in U.S. Treasury yields, as markets continue to price in expectations for the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates.
This week’s anticipated key employment data is expected to shed more light on the interest-rate path, since any signs of strength in the U.S. labor market would bolster arguments for further rate hikes.
Benchmark 10-year Treasury yields jumped to their highest levels in 19 years in September after the Federal Reserve raised interest rates by 25 basis points and adopted a more hawkish outlook in the face of rising inflation.
Oil prices surged sharply this week, heightening concerns about inflation amid a shortage of progress in U.S.-Iran negotiations. President Donald Trump had denied on Monday reports that he had offered Iran some concessions in exchange for guarantees regarding the Strait of Hormuz and its nuclear ambitions.
Earlier, Trump rejected the latest Iranian peace proposal.
Saudi-Houthi tensions also continued, keeping markets on alert for potential disruptions to oil supplies and limiting appetite for high-risk assets.
High interest rates cast a negative shadow on speculative assets such as cryptocurrencies, as they raise the opportunity cost of investing in this sector compared with debt instruments.
Senate report links USDT issued by Tether to Iran funding
A report released by U.S. Senate Democrats on Monday said Tether’s dollar stablecoin USDT has become a "lifeline" for Iran and a tool to finance proxy groups such as Hezbollah.
The report was overseen by Senator Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, the leading Democratic member on the Senate subcommittee on investigations. The report examined 846 digital wallets linked to Iran that were subject to Israeli and U.S. sanctions.
The report concluded that 84% of these wallets conducted transactions in USDT, including helping the Iranian government move funds across its borders and support its currency in the face of U.S. sanctions, including through Iran’s central bank.
USDT is the world’s largest dollar-backed stablecoin, and in the past it has faced intense scrutiny over potentially sanctions-related transactions with entities subject to U.S. sanctions.
