【Morning News for Investors | 9/29】
The three major U.S. indexes ended lower on Monday in Eastern Time. S&P 7697.58 (−0.59%), Nasdaq 100 26876.67 (−0.71%), and Dow 51579.80 (−0.48%). Overnight, the main theme was rising U.S. Treasury yields and slightly high oil prices, which weighed on risk appetite. AI hardware and storage were under pressure: Micron about −2.6% and Intel about −5.7%. Nvidia, however, rose against the trend by about +1.7% to 228.86, supported by its authorization for a buyback worth more than $100 billion. The Mag 7 remained mixed: Meta about −4.8%, Tesla about −3.9%, and Microsoft about −1.4%.
A open is slightly cooler. Semiconductors mapped most directly to compute power and optical modules. Before the National Day holiday, only two trading days remain—9/29 and 9/30—followed by the next trading day on 10/8.
Sep 28 (Fri). Shanghai Composite 3823.62 (−1.67%), Shenzhen Component 12858.75 (−3.44%), ChiNext 3139.82 (−4.53%), STAR Market 1555.98 (−4.06%); all fell below the 5-day and 20-day moving averages.
Today, first check whether the rebound follows through after a high-to-low shift, whether AI computing/power module and optical modules can stop the decline, and also look at pre-holiday trading volume and positioning.
