Why did I buy FIL?
Not because it has fallen a lot, and not because I think “old coins will definitely catch up.”
What I’m really looking at when I buy FIL is what it’s doing.
The biggest problem with Filecoin in the past was actually not the technology, but this: with such a large storage network, who is truly willing to pay for it?
And in 2026, Filecoin is clearly changing direction—from wildly expanding storage capacity to real paying customers, real data, and real revenue.
Now Filecoin Onchain Cloud has officially launched on the mainnet.
In the early stage, there were already 49.41 TiB of real data, 478 active datasets, and 81 paying wallets integrated. Also, by default, two independent storage providers are used to store the data; once storage proofs stop, payments automatically stop.
This is exactly what I’m really interested in:
Filecoin isn’t selling just “cheap hard drives” anymore—it’s selling verifiable data storage.
More importantly, it’s now moving toward the direction of AI agents.
In the future, AI will generate massive amounts of data every day—task records, model outputs, and long-term memory.
Not only do these data need to be “stored,” they also need to be proven:
Who deposited it? Has it been modified? Is it still there now? Can AI automatically pay and place calls?
Filecoin is trying to do this:
Storage + Retrieval + Verification + Payment + AI Agents
Becoming a complete data infrastructure stack.
Plus with Solstice being pushed forward, Filecoin has even started redesigning its incentive mechanism—hoping to reward more the people who truly bring paying customers and real business, instead of simply rewarding whoever has the most hard drives.
So when I buy FIL, I’m really betting on a very simple logic:
If the most valuable thing in the AI era is computing power, then the second most important thing is very likely data.
And what Filecoin wants to do is the infrastructure behind the data.
Of course, Filecoin still hasn’t proven that it has succeeded—far from it.
The real paid scale is still quite small. Whether AI agents can truly generate massive demand also needs time to verify.
But investing is like this in the first place:
Once everyone confirms it’s successful, the price may have long stopped being the price it is today.
So when I buy FIL, it’s not because I’m certain it will succeed.
That is what I believe:
Between the current price and what it could potentially do, there’s an expectation gap that’s worth me betting on.
