🇺🇸 🇮🇷 President Trump rejected Iran’s peace proposal on Monday (Sept. 28), with oil prices jumping 4% to about $108 a barrel and futures on major U.S. stock indexes falling sharply. Dow Jones futures were down 0.48%, S&P 500 futures fell 0.45%, and Nasdaq-100 futures dropped 0.86%.

Iran presented the peace plan at the United Nations General Assembly last week in New York, through Qatari mediators. Jefferies economist Mohit Kumar said the main disputes between the two sides remain focused on control of the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s nuclear program. Market volatility reflected increased sensitivity to possible inflationary and economic fallout from an extension of tensions in the Middle East, with the 60-day rolling correlation between oil prices and U.S. equity futures reaching its highest level since the end of May.
