🕌 Crypto and Sharia: An Important Occasion for Reflection
Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani Sahib and other scholars have recently presented a significant Sharia ruling regarding cryptocurrencies. In this decision of 10 June 2026, based on the research presented before the scholars and the experts’ viewpoints, it was concluded that cryptocurrencies and stablecoins such as USDT do not meet the criteria of property from a Sharia perspective, and trading through them has also been deemed impermissible.
At the same time, it is also important that blockchain, stablecoins, tokenized assets, and other digital assets have different natures and uses, so it is important to evaluate them separately from both a technical and Shariah perspective.
📌 An important lesson for Muslims:
Before entering any new financial system or market, we should consider what is halal and haram before profit and loss, seek guidance from credible scholars, and understand what we are actually buying, selling, or taking ownership of.
💭 Technology changes rapidly, but the principles of Shariah continue to guide us in conducting responsible financial dealings.
What is your opinion? Should, in the future, various digital assets in Shariah research be examined separately, rather than putting all crypto assets into the same category?
