California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a law prohibiting state government officials from issuing memecoins and barring companies from listing memecoins that utilize the image or name of a government official.

The legislation also strengthens regulations regarding restitution for victims of crypto fraud and anti-money laundering measures, while establishing a process for seizing digital assets linked to transnational criminal networks.
