New York sued the prediction markets one by one, and I can only say: if you place your chips on someone else’s rulebook, you’ll have to pay tuition sooner or later.

Kalshi’s appeal has lost again. The appeals court ruled that its sports contracts must fall under state regulation, and the case will very likely keep going all the way to the Supreme Court. This is already the second platform to stumble in less than a week. New York, meanwhile, is even more direct: right after it finished tug-of-war with Coinbase, Gemini, and Kalshi, it went ahead and sued Polymarket too—using very serious language: operating gambling illegally.

I said it the other day: the compliance cost of on-chain prediction markets has been severely underestimated by the market as a whole. The platforms have kept insisting, “We’re financial derivatives, not gambling,” but the courts don’t buy the talking points. Fines are small—the bigger issue is the mark that their business model could be shut down at any moment, which is what institutional money fears most. It’s not volatility; it’s the rules changing suddenly.

Now look at what the real coins are doing. Dogecoin is trading around $0.10. That $0.10 level has been used to bump the price back and forth several times, yet the number of on-chain transfer transactions hasn’t decreased. Cardano is around $0.26—flat and barely moving, but address activity is trending upward. Solana is at about $122.07; the busiest activity in its ecosystem has never been betting markets—it’s spot trading and payments.

In the end, the money has to stay somewhere that can be traded, regulated, and verified. Numbers won on gambling platforms can be wiped out to zero with a single injunction. Positions in real coins, at least, have a legal identity on record. Where attention goes—I’ve been seeing it clearly these past few weeks. The popularity of that little dog affiliated with Dogecoin’s “godfather” has been stacking up steadily, more tangible than registrations for any betting-style platform.

Check the answer tonight: will Dogecoin be bought up above $0.10? If it does, then I’ll treat this round of capital moving as a decision on direction.
