Binance has expanded the circle of users who can use bStocks as collateral for margin and futures trading. Previously, this feature was available to VIP level 3 clients and above. Now, users without VIP status can also access it if they meet the platform’s requirements. This format helps develop the market for tokenized stocks, but it does not turn them into direct ownership of shares.

Binance announced the changes in an official announcement.

Binance expanded access to bStocks as collateral in margin accounts

Supported bStocks can be used as collateral in Cross Margin and Portfolio Margin accounts. The user can borrow the asset whose token is being valued and buy bStocks with leverage up to 5×. In Portfolio Margin, the tokenized stock can serve as collateral and simultaneously hedge a short futures position. This makes it possible, for example, to borrow USDT against Tesla bStock and open a short position in TSLAUSDT without additional collateral. Such transactions carry the risks of margin trading and potential liquidation.

According to Binance, the total trading volume of bStocks exceeded $30 billion in less than 90 days after launch in June 2026. The holder of regular shares can convert them into bStocks and keep the ability to receive dividend payments. At the same time, the instrument operates within the crypto ecosystem, and the rules for trading leveraged futures require continuous position monitoring.

Tokenized bStocks shares: leverage and risks

“The key point of this change is that users no longer need to consider tokenized stocks and crypto positions as two separate portfolios,” said Shün̆iet Yan, head of Binance’s exchange and trading division.

He added that the same assets can be used as collateral to manage risk or to realize trading opportunities.

For VIP accounts 0–2, the exchange introduced additional risk limits. If a position crosses the set thresholds, Binance may restrict certain individual transactions; the restrictions are lifted once the account returns to an acceptable risk level. Margin collateral coefficients, margin requirements, and liquidation rules also apply.

There is also a significant legal clarification: Binance classifies bStocks as certificates that represent financial instruments. They are not stocks and do not provide direct ownership rights to a share in the company. Under the exchange’s terms, the product is available only to eligible users in permitted jurisdictions. Therefore, the announcement by itself does not confirm that this feature is available to every client in Ukraine. Understanding the tokenization mechanism of assets here is important: the token is tied to the underlying instrument, but it does not necessarily grant the same rights as owning it.
