Binance’s exchange now owns US$100 million in Circle shares and has signed a five-year agreement to roll out the USDC token to its users. As part of the terms, the 1,237,011 Class A shares are subject to a lock-up period during which they cannot be sold or transferred for up to two years. Both companies signed a long-term alliance to aggressively boost the use, adoption, and integration of USDC within the Binance platform.
The agreement states that Circle will pay Binance recurring monthly fees and incentives calculated based on the volume of USDC that is moved and stored through the platform infrastructure. This move is intended to give USDC a massive boost to narrow the gap against USDT’s historical dominance, which continues to lead market capitalization and trading volume in international markets.
