🔷 $SOL : Alpenglow protocol will reduce finality from 12.8 seconds to 150 ms

📋 Facts:
• The Solana team deployed Alpenglow on devnet (September 22) and on a public testnet
• Goal: reduce transaction finality time from ~12.8 seconds to 150 milliseconds
• 85× faster (12.8 sec → 0.15 sec)
• Application developers are testing the software before the mainnet launch
• Mainnet activation date has not been announced yet

🧠 My take: 150 milliseconds is the level of high-frequency trading on traditional exchanges. Solana is already considered one of the fastest L1s, but Alpenglow takes speed to a new level: 85 times faster than the current finality. This opens the door for applications that require near-instant finality: HFT, slot machines with real stakes, high-frequency auctions. But the question is when Alpenglow will be activated on mainnet. Testing on devnet and a public testnet is good, but production-ready could take months. Plus there’s competition: Sui, Aptos, and Monad are also working on sub-second finality.

⚠️ Risks: mainnet launch delays; competition from Sui/Aptos/Monad; migration complexity for existing dApps.

❓ Will Solana manage to keep its speed leadership after launching Alpenglow? 👇
