🚨 Urgent: $NEAR is heading toward a quantum-resistant compatibility agreement by the end of 2027
$NEAR has already launched in July on the mainnet a quantum-resistant signing system for computing, approved by NIST. Users can switch keys in a single transaction without needing to create a new account or transfer funds.
🔐 The biggest challenge now is validator compatibility. The team points out that quantum-resistant encryption technologies are still heavy at present, with an initial target of the end of 2027, but this is only a guiding timeline—not a confirmed deadline.
The hardest challenge is developing quantum-resistant MPC / Threshold Signing to support Chain Signatures across more than 30 networks, and so far there is no finalized, officially adopted solution.
Work is also underway to prepare a Ledger and other wallets to handle larger keys.
