$XRP Upgrade delayed: when doing event trading, the biggest fear is mistaking the “earliest date” for a definite one

CoinDesk reported on September 26 that the XRP Ledger’s Batch upgrade was delayed after the percentage of validator support briefly fell below the threshold. The previously projected activation date of September 29 was pushed back. The revised BatchV1_1 regained support from 30/35 trusted validators on September 25, and restarted the two-week countdown.

The earliest activation time given in the report is around 14:46 UTC on October 9 (22:46 Beijing time), assuming support continues to meet the requirements. This is not a guaranteed launch date, nor is it the current voting status I can query in real time.

【Why it’s worth paying attention】
As of around 10:15 on September 27 Beijing time, Binance spot XRP/USDT’s rolling 24-hour trading volume is about 179 million USDT, with a price change of approximately -3.16%. It’s still an actively traded altcoin. Trading volume reflects trading activity, not net buying; and you can’t attribute the whole drawdown to the upgrade delay.

【My analysis】
Batch can bundle up to eight transactions. Its “either all succeed or none execute” design helps synchronize tokenized asset delivery with payment completion, reducing the risk of only half of a transaction being completed. This is directly related to the settlement needs of tokenized assets.

But there are three separate steps that need verification: (1) the feature goes live, (2) institutions actually use it, and (3) XRP’s value grows. The report mentioned projects building around Batch, but did not disclose partners or a go-live timeline—so we still can’t estimate additional institutional capital based on this.

This delay also highlights a governance risk: the upgrade requires validator support to be maintained for two consecutive weeks. If support drops below the threshold during that period, the timer resets to zero. The vote count later recovered, but that doesn’t mean the original launch date has been restored.

【How I’d handle it】
If your trading logic depends on the upgrade going live, change the “date reminder” into a “condition reminder”: first verify the status of the official amendment and whether support is sustained, then decide whether to adjust the event position—don’t preemptively treat a specific day as the settlement day.

For positions you already have, recheck the waiting time and the maximum loss you were willing to bear originally; don’t automatically add more just because it’s delayed. If you’re integrating an application, prepare compatibility handling before and after activation, and avoid calling the new functionality until activation is confirmed.

Next, focus on two pieces of evidence: whether the countdown gets reset again, and whether after activation there is verifiable real-world business usage. If support falls out of compliance again, or if after launch the situation stays at concepts and publicity with no adopted evidence, then the assessment that “the upgrade is driving demand” should be downgraded.
